Types of Angels Explained: Seraphim, Cherubim, Archangels
Most people know three angel names: seraphim, cherubim, archangels. They appear in scripture, in art, in popular culture. They are referenced constantly and almost never explained.
What exactly is a seraphim? How does a cherubim differ from an archangel? Where do they each come from, what do they actually do, and how do they relate to each other in the larger structure of angelic reality?
The answers — drawn from the most comprehensive account of angelic reality available — are far more specific, and far more astonishing, than most people have been offered.
The Scale of What We're Talking About
Before naming the orders, one fact needs to be established: the angelic hierarchy is not a short list of symbolic beings. It is a vast, structured administration operating across the entire cosmos.
In our local universe alone — one of hundreds of thousands — there are more than 71 billion seraphim. The Brilliant Evening Stars number exactly 13,641. Archangels number almost 800,000. These beings organize into companies of 144, battalions of 1,728, legions of nearly 250,000, armies of approximately 3 million. They travel at specific velocities through space. They follow organizational protocols. They are trained, assigned, promoted, and recorded.
This is not mythology. It is administration — specific, structured, operating at a scale that dwarfs anything in human experience.
With that established, here is what each major order actually is.
Supernaphim: Angels of Paradise
At the very top of the angelic hierarchy stand the supernaphim — the most exalted, most capable beings in all angelic creation. They serve on Paradise itself and on the billion perfect worlds of the central universe.
They exist in three categories. Primary supernaphim are created directly by the Infinite Spirit himself — the oldest, most experienced ministers in existence. They serve in seven specialized groups: Conductors of Worship, Masters of Philosophy, Custodians of Knowledge, Directors of Conduct, Interpreters of Ethics, Chiefs of Assignment, and Instigators of Rest. Each group masters a different dimension of Paradise ministry, from facilitating divine communion to managing the cosmic archives to preparing perfected beings for the deepest rest between ages of service.
Secondary supernaphim guide ascending mortals through Havona — the billion perfect worlds arranged in seven concentric circuits around Paradise. Each circuit has its own dedicated group: Pilgrim Helpers, Supremacy Guides, Trinity Guides, Son Finders, Father Guides, Counselors and Advisers, and Complements of Rest. These are the beings you will meet millions of years from now when you approach Paradise, having completed the long ascent from mortality.
Tertiary supernaphim assist throughout Havona as messengers, recorders, and coordinators. They ensure that every pilgrim receives exactly the help needed at the right moment.
You will not meet supernaphim in this life, or for a very long time after it. But their work defines the highest standard of angelic ministry — what service looks like when perfected across ages of practice.
Seconaphim: The Reflective Angels
Beyond Paradise and the central universe lie the seven superuniverses — each containing hundreds of billions of inhabited worlds. Serving throughout these vast realms are the seconaphim, angels who possess an ability found in no other order: they can reflect.
Seconaphim are living mirrors of truth, able to capture and display information, wisdom, and even the thoughts of distant beings. They are, in effect, the communication network of the superuniverses — the mechanism by which vast distances and countless worlds remain connected and coordinated. When a superuniverse administrator needs to know what is happening on a world light-years away, a seconaphim reflects it in real time.
They organize into two primary groups: those who serve superuniverse administrators directly, and those who serve ascending mortals. The first group includes beings who reflect the Voice of the Conjoint Actor, the Omnipotence of the Father, the Wisdom of the Son, and other cosmic realities into forms that administrators can access and act upon. The second group includes beings who evaluate the souls of ascenders — measuring the Import of Time, the Solemnity of Trust, the Sanctity of Service, and the Soul of Goodness with living precision.
The seconaphim are proof that the universe is not fragmented or isolated. Knowledge flows. Truth is accessible. Divine administration operates with perfect information at every level.
Archangels: Masters of Resurrection
Among all the angelic orders, archangels occupy the role most directly consequential to every mortal who has ever lived: they are the specialists in resurrection.
In our local universe there are almost 800,000 archangels. They work from a specialized headquarters world, coordinating resurrection activities across the entire local universe. When a mortal dies, an archangel will eventually pronounce the resurrection — and in response to that pronouncement, a soul that has been held in sleep by its guardian seraphim is reassembled, rebuilt, and awakened in a new body on a new world.
This is not mystical or spontaneous. It is an organized, coordinated process involving multiple orders of beings working according to established procedures. Your survival does not depend on uncertain forces or inscrutable divine whims. It depends on beings who know exactly what they are doing, who have conducted countless resurrections, who approach each one — no matter how routine in procedure — with the same reverence they brought to the first.
Archangels also address one of the most persistent theological distortions in human history: the doctrine of eternal hell. That doctrine, the account states plainly, is fiction. There is no hell of eternal torment. What actually happens to those who persistently and finally reject survival is simpler and sadder: they cease to exist. Not punished — simply ended. The archangels do not coordinate damnation. They coordinate resurrection, and they work to offer every possible opportunity for survival to every mortal who has ever lived. Your deceased atheist friend who lived generously? Resurrected. Your grandmother of a different faith who loved sincerely? Resurrected. Religious affiliation does not determine resurrection eligibility. The direction of your choices does.
Seraphim: The Angels Closest to You
Of all the angelic orders, seraphim are the ones you will encounter, be influenced by, and eventually come to know as companions. They were created specifically to work with evolving mortals. Their ministry spans your mortal life and your entire post-mortal ascent.
Seraphim fall into several distinct orders based on function:
Supreme seraphim operate at the highest levels of local universe administration — maintaining systems, coordinating resources, ensuring the smooth operation of everything that makes mortal survival viable. Their groups include Sons' Attendants (who serve during planetary missions of the Creator Sons), Court Advisers (who ensure that all charges against mortal creatures are stated in justice and adjudicated in mercy), Universe Orientators (who help ascending mortals understand the structure and purpose of the universe), Teaching Counselors, Directors of Assignment, Recorders, and Unattached Ministers serving as reserves.
Superior seraphim work more directly in facilitating mortal ascension. Their groups include the Intelligence Corps (who gather and distribute information throughout the local universe), the Voices of Mercy (who proclaim divine compassion and foster the higher impulses of both men and angels), Spirit Coordinators (who synchronize the various spiritual influences working on mortal minds), Assistant Teachers, Transporters, Recorders, and Reserves.
Supervisor seraphim oversee specific functions across the constellations — including Law Forecasters, Social Architects who design structures that promote healthy community, Ethical Sensitizers who help beings develop moral awareness, and administrative support functions.
Administrator seraphim manage the practical details at the system level — the administration that oversees up to 1,000 inhabited worlds.
Planetary seraphim work directly on inhabited worlds like Earth, serving in twelve specialized groups including Epoch Angels (who supervise spiritual movements and religious revelations during each planetary era), Progress Angels (who foster the forward momentum of civilization), Religious Guardians, Teachers of Angels, Industrial Overseers, Social Architects, and Guardians of Health — overseeing the intellectual, moral, and spiritual advancement of humanity generation by generation.
And then — closest to you personally — are the guardian seraphim.
Guardian Angels: Yours Specifically
Your guardian seraphim is not a generic protective presence. She is a specific being, with a name and a history, assigned to you specifically, who has been working on your behalf since you made your first genuine moral choice.
Before personal guardians are assigned, groups of seraphim minister to larger numbers of people collectively. As a person develops spiritually, the ratio narrows — from group ministry to paired guardians working with smaller groups, to eventually a dedicated guardian assigned to a single individual.
Your guardian records everything of value from your life. She coordinates with midwayers and higher administrators to arrange circumstances, synchronize opportunities, and when needed, minimize dangers. She can influence your consciousness — strengthening intuition, providing comfort in grief, delivering clarity in crisis. She cannot override your free will. She grieves when you suffer. She celebrates when you succeed.
When you die, she carries your soul to the resurrection halls. She is the first face you will see when you wake on the mansion worlds.
Some guardians receive a special designation: destiny guardian. These are assigned to mortals whose decisions will significantly influence large numbers of others — those in positions of unusual trust or spiritual attainment. Whether or not you have a destiny guardian, you have a guardian. And she considers you her primary mission, her sacred trust, the soul she has covenanted to help carry to eternity.
Cherubim and Sanobim: The Partners
Cherubim and sanobim are the essential partners of seraphim, created by the Universe Mother Spirit specifically as helpers and associates. They are younger, less experienced, and more limited in capability — but absolutely vital to effective angelic operation.
They always work in pairs: a cherubim (positively charged, senior partner) and a sanobim (negatively charged, complement). Each is limited in solitary function; together they provide capabilities neither possesses alone.
The cherubim assigned alongside your guardian angel speaks your language, understands your culture, and has studied Earth's history and social structures. They contribute a different perspective to the guardian ministry — noticing immediate practical needs while the seraphim focuses on long-term spiritual development, managing implementation details while the seraphim coordinates with higher authorities.
What makes cherubim remarkable is their potential: they can evolve into seraphim. After sustained excellence across thousands of years of faithful service, a cherubim can undergo transformation and become a primary minister in her own right. Many of the Mansion World Teachers — the angels who educate newly resurrected mortals on the first several mansion worlds — are former cherubim who achieved seraphic status and chose to specialize in teaching.
Midwayers: Earth's Invisible Residents
Midwayers occupy a category entirely their own. They are not angels — they don't travel between worlds. They are not mortals — they don't die and resurrect. They are Earth's permanent inhabitants, beings who have lived on this planet for hundreds of thousands of years and will remain here long after every human currently alive has died and moved on.
There are two types. Primary midwayers are older, more spiritual, descended from a unique process involving the early staff of Earth's Planetary Prince. Secondary midwayers are more material, descended from the offspring of Adam and Eve. Together they serve as living bridges between the material and spiritual realms, working alongside seraphim and providing the material component of combined ministry.
Many phenomena traditionally attributed to angels in scripture were actually performed by midwayers. When Peter was freed from prison, it was a secondary midwayer — not a seraphim — who accomplished the rescue.
The Complete Picture
The traditional trio of seraphim, cherubim, and archangels are real — but they are three entries in a catalog of eleven distinct orders and numerous subtypes, each with specific origins, specific functions, and specific relationships to the mortals they serve.
From the supernaphim of Paradise to the midwayers of Earth, from the reflective seconaphim to the resurrection-conducting archangels, from the guardian seraphim assigned to individuals to the cherubim who partner alongside them — this is an administration of staggering scope, operating at every level of cosmic reality, coordinated with precision, and aimed ultimately at one purpose:
Your eternal survival and ascent.
